Wood Duck Nest at the Cottage 2019
Mama and her babies: 11 in total!
Lost at Sea!
But not for long :)
Mama Wood Duck squeezed through this opening (~5 inches in diameter) to incubate her eggs!
Nest itself, about 3 feet into the cavity in the tree. The female lines the nest with her own breast feathers to make a soft bed for her brood!
Unfortunately, 3 eggs didn't hatch, or else her brood would have been 14 strong!
A Wood Duck's view of the lake from 25 ft up!
